I am thinking about applying for a mortgage- anyone bought a house since the economic melt-down? What was your credit score?

Just got a 15 yr. mortgage at 4.65%. My average credit score was 812.

We are in the process. For FHA, most lenders are requiring at least a 620. There are a small handful that will still look at a 580. If you are in a target area for USDA, they will look more at your credit history than your actual credit score. In other words, if you have a 540 because you are lacking credit, they still may approve a loan. Conventional loans are going to need at least a 680 for approval.

To the first person, the highest FICO score you can have is 850…

Actually, mine was an 805 when I got my mortgage in January. I’m not kidding. That’s 10 years after a bankruptcy.
