where can I find mortgages that are assumable?

  Even if you found one, you wouldn’t be able to assume a loan without a credit check – you’d still have to qualify for it.

  Pretty much nonexistent now. And the lender would have to concur, which means a credit check.

  Emma very few exist anymore and whoever told you that you do not have to qualify lied. The other issue is that anyone who bought their home pre 1988 is not going to want to turn over their loan, they want to SELL, they have a huge profit and a loan that is just about paid off. This would be a very stupid thing for them to do.
